Conjur - The band Legião Urbana notified the governor of Minas Gerais, Romeu Zema (Novo), this Monday (August 18th) for the unauthorized use of the song "Que país é este" in an Instagram post about the launch of his pre-candidacy for the 2026 presidential election. The post was made on Saturday (August 16th), the same day as the event, held in Belo Horizonte.

The extrajudicial notification, signed by lawyer Leonardo Guerzoni Furtado de Oliveira, from the law firm Furtado de Oliveira Advogados, recalls that article 28 of the Copyright Law (Law 9.610/1998) guarantees authors of literary, artistic, or scientific works the exclusive right to use, enjoy, and dispose of them. It also emphasizes that article 29 of the law conditions the use of works by third parties on the prior authorization of the author, which did not occur in this case.

Finally, it determines that Zema may not use the song again in future publications, without ruling out taking further action against the legal violation that occurred over the weekend.

"Therefore, since the notifying party has the right and the duty to ensure the correct and lawful use of the work in question, and, in this sense, there is no prior authorization, especially for the use of the material with political connotations, this notice serves to request that you refrain from using the song 'Que País é Este' in future publications, on Instagram or any other platform, all without prejudice to the adoption of appropriate measures regarding the aforementioned improper use, which justifies this extrajudicial intervention," it says.
