LOS ANGELES, Aug 9 (Reuters) The rock band Kings of Leon is getting less serious with age and promises to release a "young and fun" song this Friday, in an unusual collaboration with comedian Fred Armisen.

Kings of Leon, formed by brothers Caleb, Nathan, and Jared Followill, and their cousin Matthew, have been around for a decade since the release of their first album, "Youth & Young Manhood".

After a hiatus in 2012, the band returns to activity to promote their sixth studio album, "Mechanical Bull," which will be released in September.

Matthew, the guitarist, said that the new album will have a lighter sound, as shown in the single "Supersoaker". It also marks a new phase in the personal lives of the band members, who got married and had children - but without being stuffy.

"It ended up sounding younger and more fun than other albums. We're not as serious this time," he told Reuters. "We're still the same people, we just have kids and it was really amazing. It made us have more fun in life and not take things so seriously, we just had a little more fun with things."

The band has partnered with American comedian Fred Armisen, best known for "Saturday Night Live" and the comedy series "Portlandia," who will direct the live broadcast of Kings of Leon American Express Unstaged at the Shepherds Bush Empire in London this Friday.
