247 - Writer and journalist Ruy Castro was elected this Thursday (6) to the Brazilian Academy of Letters (ABL). He will occupy chair number 13, which belonged to Sérgio Paulo Rouanet (1934-2022). Castro received 32 votes, among the 35 academics who participated.
The journalist began his professional career as a reporter in 1967 at Correio da Manhã (Rio de Janeiro). He dedicated himself to a career as a writer and columnist in the 90s. He wrote biographies such as those of Nelson Rodrigues ("The Pornographic Angel"), Garrincha ("Lonely Star"), and Carmen Miranda ("Carmen: A Biography").
The writer is the author of books of historical reconstruction about samba: bossa nova ("Chega de Saudade"), Ipanema ("Ela é carioca") and Flamengo ("O vermelho e o negro").
