Natalia Rangel_247 – A true French cinematic invasion begins this Wednesday, the 8th, in São Paulo and spreads to 23 other Brazilian cities over two weeks. This is the Varilux Film Festival, which will showcase a wide range of films from that country, many of which will be presented personally by the actresses, actors, and directors of the productions. Catherine Deneuve is the star of the event and arrives in Rio de Janeiro on Monday the 13th to present her most recent work, “Potiche: Trophy Wife,” by filmmaker François Ozon. The film's theatrical release will be on the 24th. Actress Audrey Tautou, the eternal Amelie Poulain, is already in the country to promote her new film “A Sweet Lie,” by Pierre Salvadori, and veteran actress Sandrine Bonnaire will have a retrospective of her career with the screening of several films, including “The Devilish Women” and “To Our Loves.”

She is also promoting “Checkmate,” by Caroline Bottaro. Other gems will be shown throughout the festival, notably the open-air screening of “Black Orpheus,” by Marcel Camus, which won the Palme d'Or at Cannes in 1959 (and is an adaptation of the play Orfeu da Conceição, by Vinícius de Morais). Also present will be actress Aure Atika (“Mademoiselle Chambon”) and newcomer Yahima Torres (“Black Venus”), as well as directors Alain Gagnol, Nicolas Vannier, and Caroline Bottaro, and producer Philippe Martin.
