247 - The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) will host, this Wednesday (1st), at 19 pm, a cultural event in homage to pianist Francisco Tenório Jr., who disappeared in March 1976 during the Argentine dictatorship and was killed in the context of Operation Condor. The body of the Brazilian musician, a reference in samba-jazz and bossa nova, was officially identified only on September 13th, almost five decades after his disappearance.

The event will bring together some of the biggest names in Brazilian popular music. Coordinated by Gilberto Gil, the artistic program will feature performances by Caetano Veloso, Joyce Moreno, Marcos Valle, and other guests.

The ceremony will also be attended by leaders from Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo, from Argentina, and from March of SilenceFrom Uruguay, movements that bring together family members of those who disappeared for political reasons in their countries. Representatives of the families of Eunice and Rubens Paiva — as well as relatives of Tenório Jr. — will also participate in the tribute.

Born in Laranjeiras, Rio de Janeiro, Tenório Jr. left his mark on Brazilian music with collaborations alongside names like Vinícius de Moraes, Toquinho, Gal Costa, and Milton Nascimento. His life, cut short by repression, became a symbol of the violations committed by military dictatorships in South America.
