Foo Fighters deliver historic show in Brazil

The band, led by Dave Grohl, was the main attraction on the first day of Lollapalooza; today's highlight is the British band Arctic Monkeys.

Aline Oliveira _247- When Dave Grohl took the stage at Lollapalooza shortly before 20:30 PM – the scheduled time for the Foo Fighters' performance – he already had the audience won over. From the very first chords of "All My Life," the 75 paying attendees went wild for the performance of the former Nirvana drummer, who spared no screams and roars to please a crowd that had waited eleven years to see him. It was the Foo Fighters' second time in Brazil and their first in São Paulo. The band performed at Rock in Rio in 2001.

“How many songs do you want to hear?” Grohl said in the opening moments of the show, whose setlist, very similar to the one given in Argentina, featured hits like Learn to Fly, My Hero, Best of You, and successes from the latest album, such as Walk and Arlandria.

It could be said that the fans of the American quintet were a show in themselves. All it took was for Grohl to roar anything or play a riff on his guitar for the millions of people who filled the Jockey Club on Saturday night to respond with shouts and applause. It was beautiful to see hundreds of hands raising signs with the word 'Oh' to sing along to Best of You, one of the band's biggest and most requested hits.

Even the most predictable moments – repeated in every show of the South American tour – caused teenage excitement. An example of this was when Dave Grohl took over the drums for the song "Cold Day in the Sun," performed by Taylor Hawkins. And when, during the encore, Grohl invited Joan Jett – who performed at 19:15 pm at the festival – to sing "Bad Reputation" and the 1980s classic "I Love Rock 'n Roll."

The two-and-a-half-hour show – which featured a drum solo by Taylor Hawkins, guitars by Pat Smear and Chris Shiflett, and bass by Nate Mendel – short speeches by Grohl, and extended songs – satisfied the Brazilians, who approved of the performance. Grohl promised to return soon. “We promise not to take so long to come back.”
