Campana Brothers Exhibition Arrives in São Paulo
Iconic pieces by the architects and brothers Humberto and Fernando Campana, already exhibited in Germany, will be exhibited in November in São Paulo.
247 - The iconic pieces by architects and brothers Humberto and Fernando Campana have gained worldwide recognition to the point that the Vitra Design Museum in Germany held a retrospective exhibition in 2009.
Curated by Mathias Schwartz-Clauss, the exhibition will arrive in São Paulo in November. “It was incredible to get to know São Paulo and understand where the seminal issue of these creators' inventiveness lies,” declared Schwartz-Clauss. The exhibition has already been shown at the Vale Museum, the CCBB in Brasília, and after São Paulo, it will travel to Rio de Janeiro.
Divided into nine different sections, the exhibition “Antibodies – Fernando and Humberto Campana” highlights the formal and material variety used by the brothers, while maintaining transparency in their design process. “The exhibition especially emphasizes the Campana brothers' working method, elucidating not only their artistic strategies and sources of inspiration but also recurring themes in their productions,” states the curator.
Furthermore, the exhibition includes biographies of Fernando and Humberto, with texts, films, photos, and, starting with the two chairs that marked the beginning of their careers, "negative" and "positive" (1989), the key objects that were decisive for the growth of their formulations about creative principles. "Together [the brothers] ignore all the conventions of traditional design, play with the notion of functionality, and form their poetic objects from contradictory realities," declares Schwartz-Clauss.
