Dilma questions judge's decision denying Chico's authorship of 'Roda Viva': "What is the basis for this?"
The former president states that the song "awakened us" during the military dictatorship and "still inspires"
247 Former President Dilma Rousseff questioned, in a text published on their social media, the decision of the substitute judge of the TJ-RJ, Monica Ribeiro Teixeira, that He again denied that Chico Buarque was the author of the song "Roda Viva"., in a lawsuit in which the singer and songwriter sued Congressman Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL) for improperly using the song.
In the lawsuit, Chico demands the removal of his song from Eduardo's post, as well as compensation of R$ 48 million and the publication of the conviction sentence on Instagram. In 1968, the lyrics inspired a play when the cast was beaten by the military regime. For Dilma, the song "awakened us" at the time and "still inspires."
The former president questions what the magistrate's intention might be: "To ignore the misuse that Eduardo Bolsonaro made of the song? For how can one justify that a song written to combat the military dictatorship was, without the authorization of its author, Chico Buarque, improperly used in support of the fascism that he, Eduardo Bolsonaro, represents?"
Read the full text below and listen to the song, which was also posted by Dilma:
"Roda Viva" is by Chico Buarque, and its legacy spans many generations.
What is the basis for the judge's ruling that concluded there was no proof that the song 'Roda Viva' was written by our great composer, musician, and poet Chico Buarque de Holanda? Is it to ignore the improper use that Eduardo Bolsonaro made of the song? For how can one justify that a song written to combat the military dictatorship was, without the authorization of its author, Chico Buarque, improperly used in support of the fascism that he, Eduardo Bolsonaro, represents?
The only way to deny authorship is by denying it to Chico Buarque.
Or is it simply a matter of ignorance of the fact that one of the most beautiful songs in the history of Brazilian Popular Music (MPB) was written by Chico Buarque in 1967, sung by him at a festival, awarded first place, and moved an entire generation of Brazilians? And that all of us, from this generation and those to come, can claim to be witnesses to Chico's authorship and the profound emotion that "Roda Viva" awakened in us and still inspires?
Perhaps the substitute judge of the TJRJ (Rio de Janeiro State Court of Justice), Monica Ribeiro Teixeira, could claim as an excuse for ignoring the authorship of "Roda Viva" the fact that she wasn't born when the song was released. But, in this case, the difficulty could have been quickly resolved with a search on Google and Ecad (Brazilian Society of Authors, Composers and Music Publishers), to discover what the whole country already knows.
Watch below the proof that the song that enchanted Brazil and remains fundamental to this day was written by one of the greatest Brazilian composers of all time: Chico Buarque singing HIS "Roda Viva" at the song festival, upon the announcement of his victory:
