Singer and songwriter Miúcha dies at age 81.

Miúcha was married to the singer João Gilberto, with whom she had a daughter, also a singer, Bebel Gilberto, and was the sister of the singer and composer Chico Buarque and the singers Ana de Hollanda and Cristina Buarque; while undergoing treatment for cancer, she died of respiratory failure.

Brazil Agency - Singer and songwriter Miúcha, aged 81, died late this afternoon (27), at Hospital Samaritano, in Botafogo, south of Rio, victim of cardiorespiratory arrest. Born Heloísa Maria Buarque de Hollanda, the artist fell ill at home where she was being treated for cancer.

In a statement, the Samaritano Hospital in Botafogo reported that the singer and songwriter died "due to respiratory failure. The hospital expresses its condolences to the singer's family and friends."

Miúcha was married to the singer João Gilberto, with whom she has a daughter, also a singer, Bebel Gilberto. She is the sister of the singer and composer Chico Buarque and the singers Ana de Hollanda and Cristina Buarque.

In the 1970s, Miúcha released some of the biggest hits of her career: Maninha (composed by her brother Chico Buarque in her honor), Pela luz dos olhos teus (Vinicius), Vai levando (Chico Buarque and Caetano Veloso), Samba do avião, Falando de amor (both by Tom Jobim) and Dinheiro em penca (Tom Jobim and Cacaso), which would serve as inspiration for her brother Chico to create the song Para todos, the title of his album in 1993.

The artist recorded albums and performed on stages in several countries. Her last work was Rosa amarela (1999), first released in Japan, and includes classics such as Doce de coco (Jacob do Bandolim) and compositions such as Assentamento (Chico Buarque).
