Björk releases album with app for iPad and iPhone.

Biophilia offers a range of apps that allow interaction with music; download them here.

247- Stating that Björk defies convention is nothing new. The Icelandic singer's career is marked by innovative attitudes and experimentation. This can be seen in her new album, Biophilia, which functions as an app for iPad and iPhone, allowing fans to interact with the songs.

Biophilia was inspired by nature and planetary movements, and each song has its own app representing a planet. By downloading Biophilia – the mother app, as Björk herself calls it – you can use a 3D navigation system, travel through each planet to listen to excerpts of the songs, see animations, sheet music, and exclusive features.

Björk's intention is to unite "music, nature and technology". In an interview with National Public Radio, the singer said that interactivity is not "just an accessory, it is the music".

The main app is free, but each track must be purchased separately. The apps were developed in partnership with Scott Snibble, a multimedia artist who also produced visuals for the album's promotional shows. The standard CD version is already available in stores.
