From the Red Portal - After prohibiting Caetano Veloso's show at the Povo Sem Medo occupation of the Homeless Workers' Movement (MTST) in São Bernardo do Campo this Monday (30), the singer reschedules the performance for December 10.

Singer and songwriter Caetano Veloso, who was prevented from performing a free concert at the Povo sem Medo occupation in São Bernardo do Campo on Monday, has rescheduled the performance for December 10th, with the venue yet to be determined.

The show was to be held in support of the 8,000 working families who have been occupying a plot of land abandoned for 40 years by the construction company MZM for two months. However, in an explicit act of censorship, Judge Ida Inês Del Cid, of the 2nd Public Treasury Court of São Bernardo, prohibited the performance at the occupied site.

According to the ruling, if the show were to take place, the fine would be R$ 500, with "a police order granted, if necessary." To prohibit the performance, the judge argued that the venue lacked the infrastructure to support a show by an artist of Caetano Veloso's stature.

For the singer, the ban on the show was regrettable. "It gives the impression that it's not a truly democratic environment."

"This is the first time I've been prevented from singing during the democratic period," said Cateno.

The information regarding the new performance was confirmed by producer Paula Lavigne, the artist's manager, to Uol Notícias.

Historic march

This Tuesday (31), a historic march by the Homeless Workers Movement (MTST) brought together more than 20 people in a 23 km walk from São Bernardo do Campo to the Palácio do Bandeirantes to demand the expropriation of the abandoned land.

The outcome of the people's struggle was the promise from the Alckmin government to invest in housing and to register the families occupying the space with the Housing and Urban Development Company (CDHU).
