Birthday boy Chico Buarque is remembered by Lula and Jean Wyllys.
Singer and songwriter Chico Buarque turns 72 and was remembered by personalities such as former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and federal deputy Jean Wyllys (Psol-RJ); "Happy birthday to Chico Buarque, a treasure of our culture and a source of pride for the Brazilian people," said Lula on Facebook; on the same social network, Wyllys stated: "know that poets, like the blind, can see in the darkness"; "Congratulations, Chico Buarque! Thank you for illuminating our paths so far and for remaining that beacon that prevents us from colliding with the rocks inside and outside of ourselves. I love you!", he added.

Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1944, Chico began by writing lyrical songs. During the military dictatorship, he protested against the lack of freedom in the country. Threatened by the regime, he went into exile in Italy in 1969, a period in which he composed the songs "Apesar de você" and "Cálice," which were banned by Brazilian censorship and marked his career.
Chico was a songwriting partner and performer of major hits by some of the biggest names in Brazilian Popular Music (MPB), such as Vinicius de Moraes, Tom Jobim, Toquinho, Milton Nascimento, Caetano Veloso, and Ruy Guerra.
Among the awards he has received are: Troféu Imprensa, Prêmio Jabuti, Latin Grammy, and Prêmio da Associação Paulista dos Críticos de Arte.
