The vuvuzela of Brazil

Inspired by the instrument that became famous at the South African World Cup, the Caxirola was created by Carlinhos Brown, an adaptation of the caxixi, and promises to make a lot of noise in Brazilian stadiums.

By Matheus Morais_ Bahia 247 - The Caxirola is coming, a genuinely Brazilian instrument that promises to symbolize the country at the 2014 World Cup, just like the vuvuzela did in South Africa in 2010. The creation of the new instrument, adapted from the caxixi and developed with "green plastic" material and in various colors, could not be by any other musician than the chief of Candeal, Carlinhos Brown.

"The Caxirola comes as the youngest daughter of the vuvuzela, but with a different shape, design, and sound. Based on the caxixi, an instrument used to play the berimbau in capoeira, I created the caxirola as a way to amplify the joy of cheering," the composer explained. Brown's new invention promises to invade Brazilian stadiums in the coming months as a kind of preview for the 2014 World Cup.
