44 years of "Raulzito and Os Panteras"

To commemorate their first album and the 22nd anniversary of Raul Seixas' death, the band "Os Panteras" returns to the stage.

Camila Vieira_247 – In the mid-1960s, the group "Raulzito e Os Panteras" went to Rio de Janeiro to record their first album. They played in a Beatles style, even incorporating the group's famous suits, but without the romantic touch of the British band. Arriving at the studio with their version of "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds," which began with the phrase "Imagine a day with the taste of jackfruit...", the producer reacted and said: "that doesn't exist." So, the group – annoyed – changed the beginning of the song "Você ainda pode sonhar" (You Can Still Dream), which remains on the LP: "Imagine a day with the taste of childhood...". Then, the producer accepted.

"He wanted to fit us into the romantic 'yeah, yeah, yeah' style. It was a struggle to reconcile what the group wanted with what he wanted. In the end, something came out that wasn't quite what the group wanted, nor what the producer wanted," says vocalist Eládio. But it worked. Despite not circulating nationally, remaining restricted to Salvador, the album is notable for being Raul Seixas's first album. "The type of music in vogue [Tropicália, Jovem Guarda] had a different approach. There was no point in talking about metaphysics, because things were different," comments the vocalist.

Thus, to commemorate the 44th anniversary of the release of his first album and the twenty-second anniversary of the death of the father of Brazilian rock, visual artist Leonel Mattos and the musical director of the Vila Velha Theater, Jarbas Bittencourt, are organizing events featuring a show by the band "Os Panteras" – Raulzito's first musical partners. He became a legend, and his legacy remains to this day, captivating new generations who never tire of loudly chanting the famous "Play Raul!".

On August 17th, the public can attend the opening of the exhibition "11 + 22 + 44," in which 11 invited artists commemorate the 22nd anniversary of the death of the singer who released his first album 44 years ago. The group show will feature the participation of artists Almandrade, Bel Borba, Celso Cunha, Justino Marinho, Carlinio França, Miguel Cordeiro, Amiro Bernabó, Ricardo Franco, Vauluizo Bezerra, Gustavo Moreno, and Leonel Mattos, who is the curator of the exhibition. At the opening, starting at 19 pm, "Os Panteras" will perform in front of the Leonel Mattos Atelier, located in Rio Vermelho.

First time at 'Vila Velha'

"Os Panteras" will present the show "Quarenta e Quatro" next Thursday (18), at the aforementioned theater, at 20 pm. This is the first time in history that the group has taken to the stage at Teatro Vila Velha, as back in the 60s the venue did not host rock shows, says vocalist Eládio. Only Cine Roma accepted the musical genre, where the quartet used to play. On Thursday, in addition to playing songs from that time, the group will present two unreleased tracks that are on the new CD that the trio is about to finish.

On the 20th, the band heads to Belo Horizonte where they will perform at the 7th Tribute to Raul Seixas. Then, on the 21st, they go to São Paulo. The group ended their partnership with the Brazilian legend in 1992, and then Raulzito became Raul Seixas. Today, Eládio (vocals and guitar), Mariano (bass) and Carleba (drums) lead the group.
