247 - China's response demonstrates the importance of domestic research and public health capabilities, the editorial said.

Chinese scientists were quickly able to identify the virus and share the genomic sequencing data internationally, soon after Covid-19 emerged, the article says.

By the end of January, doctors in China had identified the clinical characteristics of Covid-19 patients, person-to-person transmission, genomic characteristics, and epidemiology, alerting the world to the threat of Covid-19 with research articles published in The Lancet.

China has also been at the forefront of vaccine research, with promising results from initial tests of a recombinant adenovirus vector type 5 vaccine, developed in China and published in The Lancet in May and July, according to the article.

Meanwhile, achieving a rapid and effective implementation of control measures for Covid-19 requires broad community engagement, and community solidarity "has been unprecedented during the Covid-19 outbreak in China."

The article also stated that addressing a global health emergency like a pandemic requires open collaboration, and when it comes to Covid-19, "scapegoating China for the pandemic is not a constructive response."
