São Paulo announces fourth dose of Covid vaccine.
Governor João Doria did not give a timeline for when the fourth dose will begin to be administered. The Ministry of Health has not yet decided on the fourth dose.
247 - The governor of São Paulo, João Doria (PSDB), stated this Wednesday (9), in a press conference, that the state will apply the fourth dose of the Covid-19 vaccine to the entire population, “regardless of recommendations from the Ministry of Health”.
According to the governor, the fourth dose will follow the vaccination schedule. “Moving forward with the second dose, so that we can begin the booster dose, the fourth dose, also following an age-based order, as we did with the third dose. We will adopt the fourth dose in São Paulo, regardless of whether or not there is a recommendation from the Ministry of Health,” said Doria.
The governor did not give a timeline for when the fourth dose would begin to be administered, but said it has already been confirmed by the scientific committee and that the state is ready to start.
Health Minister Marcelo Queiroga, however, said that the ministry has not yet decided on administering the fourth dose.
“The technical team has been discussing it. Secretary Rosana [de Melo, from the Extraordinary Secretariat for Combating Covid-19] spoke with me last Friday and said that the technical team is not yet considering administering the fourth dose, but, in practice, it would be the 2022 dose,” declared the Minister of Health.
