A report from The Lancet suggests that the Covid virus may have originated in a US laboratory.
The report suggests that American researchers may be to blame.
247 - A report from The Lancet's Covid-19 Commission, the world's leading medical journal, suggests that the novel coronavirus, which causes Covid-19, may have leaked from a laboratory in the United States.
Published on Wednesday after two years of research, the Lancet article said it remains "viable" that SARS-CoV-2 arose from a natural event or a laboratory incident and recommended introducing more safeguards to reduce the risk of both possibilities.
But the report, which cites institutions in Wuhan, the initial epicenter of the pandemic, also suggests that American researchers may be to blame. The text notes that "independent researchers have not yet investigated" the US laboratories and said that the National Institutes of Health "have resisted releasing details" of their work.
The commission is led by Professor Jeffrey Sachs, who defends the theory that the new coronavirus was an accidental release of American biotechnology. In JuneThe economist lamented that this version, however, "is not being investigated, neither in the United States nor anywhere else." (With information from...) The Telegraph).
