247, with DW - As of February 1st, the use of face masks to protect against Covid-19 is no longer mandatory in Denmark. The population no longer needs to present proof of vaccination or recovery, and no longer needs to undergo testing. There are no longer any limits on the number of people allowed at large events. In football stadiums, all seats can be occupied, and the operation of nightclubs and bars has also been allowed to resume.

"We say 'goodbye' to restrictions and 'hello' to the life we knew before the coronavirus," celebrated the Prime Minister of Denmark, Mette Frederiksen.

"Virtually all infections in Denmark are now cases of Omicron," tweeted political scientist Michael Bang Petersen, who leads the largest project on population behavior during the pandemic and advises the Danish government on coronavirus issues. "The combination of Omicron and a high proportion of booster doses dissociates infection from severity."

"Although case counts are high, the pressure on hospitals is lower than in previous waves," he stated, highlighting that this is due to the high vaccination rate in Denmark, where vaccines are available from the age of five.

As of Tuesday (1), Denmark had 60,6% of the population immunized with the three doses of the vaccine.

A survey conducted for the Danish newspaper Politiken on Monday (31) showed that 30% of respondents said they will continue to wear masks even if they are not mandatory.
