247 German and British researchers have discovered that the COVID-19 virus can change its shape to evade the immune system. According to the research, published in the scientific journal... Nature Communications.Possible mutations of the coronavirus were analyzed. The study was developed by scientists from the Max Planck Institute in Germany and the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom. The reports were published by CanalTech.

The coronavirus can modify the structure of the protein spike (S), responsible for invading healthy cells, when it comes into contact with inflammatory fatty acids, this being part of the body's response against infection. Then "the virus becomes less visible to the immune system. This may be a mechanism to avoid detection by the host," said Oskar Staufer, one of the study's authors and a researcher at the German institute.

The discoveries were made in a controlled environment, inside a laboratory, using synthetic versions of the coronavirus.
