It seems the WHO wants to break countries, says Bolsonaro.

"That WHO said that asymptomatic people don't transmit the virus, then they backtracked. It seems there's something more behind this, that they want to break countries," said Jair Bolsonaro.

Reuters - Jair Bolsonaro said on Wednesday that it seems the World Health Organization (WHO) wants to "break countries," after the organization clarified that people carrying Covid-19 who are asymptomatic can indeed transmit the respiratory disease caused by the new coronavirus.

"The WHO said that asymptomatic people don't transmit the virus, then they backtracked. It seems there's something more behind this, that they want to break up countries," he told supporters as he left the Alvorada Palace this morning.

The day before, Bolsonaro used a statement from a WHO director, in which she said there was evidence that transmission of Covid-19 by asymptomatic people was rare, to advocate that governors should reopen sectors of the economy that had been closed as part of social isolation measures to curb the spread of the virus.

On the same day, the WHO revised the statement and reported that there is no clear evidence of non-transmission by asymptomatic individuals. The organization had already made a distinction between asymptomatic individuals—people who, despite having the virus, will not show symptoms—and pre-symptomatic individuals—those who have the virus and will develop symptoms later.

According to figures from the Ministry of Health, Brazil has 739.502 confirmed cases of the disease and 38.406 people have already died from Covid-19 in the country.
