PARIS (Reuters) - France recorded 761 more deaths from coronavirus infections on Friday, bringing the total to 18.681, the fourth highest count in the world, but the number of people in hospitals decreased for the third consecutive day.

And, in another sign that the isolation imposed a month ago is working, Jérôme Salomon, head of the public health authority, said that the total number of people in intensive care units (ICUs) fell for the ninth consecutive day, to 6.027, the lowest level since April 1st.

The number of deaths increased by 4,2% in 24 hours, with the rate of increase slowing for the second consecutive day.
