Hydroxychloroquine does not protect against severe forms of Covid-19 in the long term, according to a French study.
The study on hydroxychloroquine "does not suggest that the long-term use of synthetic antimalarials (SAPs) has a preventive role regarding the risk of hospitalization, intubation, or death related to Covid-19."
247 - The use of hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine in patients, especially those with autoimmune diseases, did not make them less affected by severe forms of Covid-19, according to a French study published on Tuesday (7).
The authors of the survey, conducted with nearly 55.000 patients, state that the study "does not suggest that the long-term use of synthetic antimalarials (APS) has a preventive role regarding the risk of hospitalization, intubation, or death related to Covid-19."
The authors also state that the study is not able to completely rule out the ineffectiveness of the drug, but that, based on the analysis of the results, the consumption of the substance for "preventive use" against Covid-19 is not recommended.
