247 - The president of Pfizer in Brazil, Marta Díez, in an interview with the newspaper. The GlobeHe stated that it is important to guarantee access to vaccines for low- and middle-income countries so that there is a global exit from the pandemic. Díez believes that only in this way 'will the pandemic become increasingly less severe'.

The executive lamented the numerous omissions by the Bolsonaro government in responding to Pfizer's proposal for the sale of vaccines, but praised the uptake of the immunizations by Brazilians.

"This is the first time we've had a pandemic of this magnitude. So, we can observe today, versus a year ago, that mortality rates and severe cases are much lower in all countries, including Brazil, which has a high vaccination rate."

Pfizer announced plans to launch a new vaccine against Omicron in March. Díez pointed out that the contract with the Brazilian government includes these potential vaccines, whether for Omicron or other variants, but that production will depend on government demand.

"Perhaps the pandemic situation in each country is different. If some governments see that the population is rigorously vaccinated with the third dose, they may assess that it is not necessary to acquire this immunizing agent."

The executive also said that the company should request registration with Anvisa (Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency) in the coming weeks for its drug Paxlovid, an antiviral pill with almost 90% effectiveness against Covid-19. According to her, "we will learn to live" with Covid-19.
