Ambassador urges Germans to leave Brazil immediately due to the advance of the coronavirus.

247 - The German embassy has warned its citizens to leave Brazil immediately due to the spread of the coronavirus in the country. 

Read an excerpt from the letter: 

"In Brazil, the number of people infected with the COVID-19 virus, those seriously ill, and the deaths are increasing extremely rapidly. Due to this acceleration, there are fears that the situation here will worsen quickly." 

In some states, healthcare systems are already overwhelmed. Meanwhile, the risk of becoming infected and ill is increasing. Consequently, you may not be able to benefit from adequate medical care. 

In many places in Brazil, there are often extensive restrictions on public life. Brazil's land borders have been closed, and domestic and international air connections have been reduced – mainly due to a lack of demand. Many hotels, even in tourist areas, are closing.

The good news: Lufthansa and some other European airlines still fly at least from São Paulo (Air France also from Rio de Janeiro) to Frankfurt and other European destinations. 

Daily connecting flights between major Brazilian cities are also guaranteed. 

Therefore: If you are stuck in Brazil for a short period of time, we recommend that you leave urgently and not wait any longer. You must immediately book a return flight and get back as soon as possible. 

To do this, contact Lufthansa or other airlines, check their websites, or make reservations through booking portals or travel agencies. 

Plan your connecting flight so that you have enough time in São Paulo (possibly with hotel accommodation: there are enough hotels open in São Paulo. Also, connections between the city and São Paulo and Viracopos airports) before your international flight to arrive at Guarulhos airport on time.
