Twelve state capitals are on a state of emergency due to a surge in coronavirus cases.

Among the cities, the worst situation is in Fortaleza, which registers 573 cases per 1 million inhabitants. Next comes São Paulo, with 518 cases in the same proportion, and Manaus.

247 - Twelve capital cities have incidence rates of new coronavirus cases at a level that indicates an emergency situation. The rate is a standard that considers the volume of cases relative to the population. 

The Ministry of Health classifies a situation as an emergency when the rates are 50% above the national average, currently at 111 cases per 1 million inhabitants, which indicates an alert due to the increase in Covid-19 cases.

Among the cities, the worst situation is in Fortaleza, which registers 573 cases per 1 million inhabitants. Next comes São Paulo, with 518 cases in the same proportion, and Manaus, with 482. Completing the list are Macapá (AP), Florianópolis (SC), Recife (PE), São Luís (MA), Rio de Janeiro (RJ), Vitória (ES), Porto Alegre (RS), Brasília (DF), and Boa Vista (RR).

The new coronavirus has already consumed at least R$ 12 billion of money from the Unified Health System in the country.
