Doria says that, if approved, the Chinese vaccine could begin production in Brazil in November.

247 - The governor of São Paulo, João Doria (PSDB), said on Tuesday, the 21st, that if the Chinese vaccine, currently being tested by the Butantan Institute, is approved against Covid-19 in the third phase, it could begin to be produced as early as November of this year.

The agreement with the Chinese laboratory, Sinovac Biotech, stipulates that, if the vaccine is effective, Brazil will receive 60 million doses manufactured in China for distribution. Furthermore, the Butantan Institute is adapting a factory for vaccine production, with a capacity to produce more than 100 million doses.

"If this approval is granted by the end of October, the Butantan Institute will be able to begin production of 120 million units of this coronavirus vaccine in November," Doria said in an interview with Globo News.

"The Butantan Institute will be producing the coronavirus vaccine here. It is a message of hope in the face of such a serious and difficult situation as this pandemic that has struck Brazil and 215 other countries around the world," he said.
