By Agency Brazil - The National Supplementary Health Agency (ANS) has decided to include, in the list of mandatory procedures to be covered by health plans, tests to confirm infection by the new coronavirus, which causes covid-19. Normative Resolution 458, of 2020, which includes laboratory tests, was published today (29) in the Official Gazette of the Union.

Testing for IgA, IgG, or IgM antibodies will be mandatory for health plans in outpatient, hospital (with or without obstetrics), and referral segments, in cases where the patient presents or has presented certain clinical conditions.

These clinical conditions include influenza with acute respiratory symptoms (fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, or difficulty breathing) and severe acute respiratory syndrome (difficulty breathing, persistent chest pressure, oxygen saturation less than 95% in ambient air, or bluish discoloration of the lips and face).

The inclusion of the tests in the list of mandatory procedures for health plans was decided at a meeting of the ANS (National Agency for Supplementary Health) last week, in compliance with a court ruling.
