Pelé sends a message to Neymar after World Cup elimination: 'Your legacy is far from over'
"My record was set almost 50 years ago, and nobody had come close to it until now. You've made it, kid," said the King of Football.
247 - Former player Pelé, 82, wrote a message wishing strength to striker Neymar, 30, after Brazil's elimination against Croatia this Friday (9) in the quarterfinals of the World Cup, held in Qatar, a region with parts of Asia and Africa. "My record was set almost 50 years ago, and no one had managed to get close to it until now. You got there, kid," said Pelé.
The former player scored 77 goals in official matches for the Brazilian national team, according to FIFA figures. With his goal this Friday in the match against Croatia, Neymar reached the same number of goals scored by the King of Football.
"Neymar, I've watched you grow up and I can finally congratulate you on equaling my number of goals for the Brazilian National Team. Your legacy is far from over. Keep inspiring us. I will continue to punch the air in joy with every goal you score," he stated.
"I've learned that the more time passes, the more our legacy grows. My record was set almost 50 years ago, and no one had come close to it until now. You made it, kid. That makes your achievement even more remarkable."
