247 - The Climate Summit, held in Belém (PA), reaches its second and final day this Friday (7) with an agenda focused on the energy transition, strengthening the Paris Agreement and global financing strategies to combat the climate crisis. The event brings together heads of state, ministers and representatives from more than 70 countries.

The conference precedes the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 30), which will also take place in Belém, between November 10 and 21. The meeting aims to reinforce multilateral commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and give new impetus to the negotiations that will mark the next two weeks of official COP debates.

Debates and programming

Friday's program began with the arrival of the delegations at the Blue Zone, an area restricted to heads of state, diplomats, observers, and accredited press. After the traditional group photo, the leaders resumed their speeches on the climate emergency.

One of the main topics under discussion is the energy transition. Brazil argues that this change needs to happen with... climate justice, reconciling forest protection with sustainable development and the reduction of social inequalities. Diplomacy and international cooperation

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva resumes his schedule of bilateral meetings this Friday, with a focus on meetings with the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Opening with global alert

At the opening of the summit, held on Thursday (6), Lula appealed to countries to adopt concrete and immediate measures against global warming. The president cited the report of United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), which warns about the growing difficulty of limiting the increase in the planet's average temperature to 1,5°C.

"COP 30 will be the COP of truth. It is time to take the warnings of science seriously. It is time to face reality and decide whether or not we will have the courage and determination necessary to transform it," Lula declared during his opening speech.

After the ceremony, the president hosted world leaders at an official luncheon for the launch of the Rainforests Forever Fund (TFFF), which already has US$5,5 billion in initial funding. The announcement was made at a press conference attended by ministers. Fernando Haddad (Farm), Marina Silva (Environment and Climate Change) and Sonia Guajajara (Indigenous Peoples).

Historic context
