247 - The COP30 Presidency announced the release of a letter outlining the guidelines and objectives of the conference, which will take place in November in Belém (PA). The document will be presented by Ambassador André Corrêa do Lago, President of COP30, and Ana Toni, CEO of the event and National Secretary for Climate Change, during a press conference scheduled for March 10th at the Itamaraty Palace. The event aims to consolidate the transition from a phase of negotiations to more effective global climate governance.

During an informal meeting at the UN General Assembly in New York, the ambassador highlighted the importance of accelerating the implementation of the Paris Agreement, which will be ten years old in 2025. "The scientific dimension has already been sufficiently absorbed, but how do we move forward, how do we transform these documents that are signed every year into realities that have an impact on the functioning of countries and on people's lives as well?" he questioned.

Brazil hopes that COP30 will be a milestone in expanding climate finance, one of the main challenges on the global environmental agenda. The goal set at COP29 foresees an increase in investments in this area from US$300 billion to US$1,3 trillion annually by 2035, but mobilizing these resources still faces obstacles. "We don't yet have a formula that guarantees these resources will be obtained, but there is no doubt that the resources exist in the world, and the issue is that they are generally directed towards investments that do not take into account the impact of climate change," stated Corrêa do Lago.

In addition to increased funding, COP30 will address topics such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions, adapting to climate change, and preserving forests and biodiversity. Brazil, as the host country, intends to lead the debate on strengthening multilateralism and international cooperation to address environmental challenges.

The conference will take place between November 10th and 21st and will bring together global leaders, scientists, and representatives of civil society in Belém. The choice of the city as the host of COP30 highlights the leading role of the Amazon region in discussions on sustainability and the transition to a low-carbon economy.
