Xi pointed out that adapting religions in China to the Chinese context is key to achieving religious harmony.
Beijing, September 29 (Xinhua) – Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), emphasized on Monday the importance of ensuring that Chinese religions adapt even further to the Chinese context.
While presiding over a group study session of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Xi called for the provision of active guidance so that religions can adapt to socialist society.
Since the 18th National Congress of the CPC in 2012, the Party has introduced a series of new ideas and measures, including the principle that religions in China should be Chinese in orientation, Xi said, adding that these efforts have led to achievements in religious work in the new era.
Xi pointed out that adapting religions in China to the Chinese context is key to achieving religious harmony, ethnic unity, social harmony, and long-term stability for the country.
He also called for efforts to guide religious figures and believers to develop an accurate understanding of the country, its history, ethnicity, culture, and religion.
He said that religions in China can only be transmitted in a healthy way because they always have their roots in Chinese culture, and he called for efforts to promote the integration of religions with the excellent traditional Chinese culture.
Xi noted that managing religious affairs in accordance with the law is the fundamental way to properly address contradictions and issues in the field of religion, and stressed the need to improve relevant regulations and policies.
