CGTN – Chinese President Xi Jinping met with the Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Sergei Shoigu, on Friday (28) at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

Xi Jinping emphasized that China and Russia are neighbors and true friends with deep ties. He mentioned that this year he has already had two conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, during which they outlined the future of Sino-Russian relations and discussed a number of important international and regional issues.

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese people in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, of the Soviet Union in the Great Patriotic War, and of the global struggle against fascism, as well as the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations.

According to the Chinese leader, Sino-Russian relations will have a number of important new agendas in this year of great historical significance. The two sides should maintain close communication at all levels, fully implement the agreements reached by the two leaders, and continue to promote the spirit of the new era of Sino-Russian relations, based on enduring friendship, comprehensive strategic cooperation, and mutual gain.

Xi Jinping stressed that China and Russia should continue to deepen strategic and pragmatic cooperation and assist each other for the joint development of both countries. The two sides need to strengthen their coordination on international and regional affairs, fully leverage the role of BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, and consolidate solidarity among countries of the Global South.

Shoigu conveyed President Putin's warm greetings to Xi Jinping and stated that the Russian president values ​​his sincere friendship and close ties with the Chinese president. Russian-Chinese relations are at an unprecedented level and are not targeting third parties.

The Secretary emphasized that the partnership between the two countries plays an important role on the world stage, establishing a model for major international relations. Russia and China have always maintained mutual trust and equal dialogue. Strategic cooperation between the two countries serves common interests. Russia appreciates China's efforts in promoting a peaceful solution to the crisis in Ukraine and will continue to implement the important consensuses reached by the two heads of state and strengthen cooperation with China, the Secretary noted.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi participated in the meeting.
