Xi Jinping proposes new global governance in speech at the "Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Plus"
According to Xi Jinping, global governance has reached a new crossroads.
CGTN – Chinese President Xi Jinping chaired the “Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Plus” meeting on Monday (1st) in the northern Chinese port city of Tianjin.
According to Xi Jinping, global governance has reached a new crossroads.
The leader of the Asian country recalled that 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in World War II and the founding of the United Nations. Although historical trends of peace, development, cooperation, and mutual benefit remain unchanged, Cold War mentalities, hegemonism, and protectionism continue to haunt the world.
New threats and challenges have increased, and the world finds itself in a new period of turbulence and transformation, stated the President of China.
At the event, the Chinese leader proposed the Global Governance Initiative.
"I look forward to working with all countries toward a more just and equitable global governance system and advancing toward a community with a shared future for mankind," Xi Jinping said in his speech at the meeting.
The President of China highlighted five principles for the Global Governance Initiative:
First: adhere to sovereign equality.
Second: respect the international rule of law.
Third: to practice multilateralism.
Fourth: to advocate for a people-centered approach.
Fifth: focus efforts on taking real action.
According to the Chinese leader, to face a world undergoing drastic changes never seen in a century, the SCO must play a leading role and serve as a model for the implementation of the global governance initiative.
According to Xi Jinping, China will continue to insist on tearing down walls, not building them, and promoting integration instead of decoupling, to boost the high-quality joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative and the development of economic globalization in pursuit of a more inclusive and universally beneficial economy.
The president also said that the Chinese government is willing to work together with all parties to assume responsibility and promote the correct view of the history of World War II, firmly protecting the results of victory.
"Let's ensure that the achievements of reforming the global governance system and building a community with a shared future for mankind benefit all of humanity in the best possible way!" Xi Jinping declared.
