CGTN – To mark the 35th anniversary of relations between China and Singapore, Singapore's Prime Minister Lawrence Wong will soon make an official visit to China. In an interview with the China Media Group (CMG), he assessed bilateral ties and offered his perspective on the future development of relations between the two sides.

Lawrence Wong stated that China and Singapore have maintained a close and consistent partnership based on trust, respect, and understanding. The diplomatic relationship was jointly established by Singapore's founder, Lee Kuan Yew, who was also the country's first premier, and former Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping. Since then, successors who have served as Singapore's prime minister have established friendly relations and mutual trust with Chinese leaders.

Wong hopes to continue this diplomatic tradition and deepen communication with Chinese leaders, especially the country's president, Xi Jinping, and the prime minister, Li Qiang. According to Wong, the China-Singapore Joint Council for Bilateral Cooperation is a higher-level mechanism between the two countries, aimed at coordinating cooperation projects in various areas. For him, this partnership is not limited to the quantity of projects, but rather focuses on comprehensive, forward-looking, and high-quality cooperation.
