247 - Education workers and family farmers are concerned about Jair Bolsonaro's (PL) veto of the parliamentary amendment to the Budget Guidelines Law (LDO) that provided for a 34% increase in the National School Feeding Program, the PNAE, at the beginning of this month.

According to them, with this measure, the government worsens the quantity and quality of school meals and consequently harms the quality of education and the development of children and adolescents throughout the country.

The School Food Observatory released a statement deeply regretting the veto of the Budget Guidelines Law (LDO), which provides for the adjustment of per capita values of the National School Feeding Program (PNAE) for inflation (IPCA), something that had not happened since 2017. The Observatory recalls that the approval of the PNAE adjustment by the National Congress was the result of strong pressure from civil society and the commitment of parliamentarians from different parties, mobilized due to the loss of purchasing power of the PNAE, in the face of increasing food inflation, according to the Observatory's website.
