We will find a solution for the price of food, says Lula.
"Affordable food on the worker's table is something we are pursuing," the president declared.
247 - President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva stated this Thursday (6) that the government is committed to finding solutions to reduce food prices in Brazil. In an interview with radio stations in Bahia, Lula highlighted that the economic team and ministries in the agricultural sector are mobilized to address the problem.
"We are working, talking to business owners, making extensive use of the expertise of the Treasury, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the Ministry of Agrarian Development, so that we can find a solution on how to reduce the price," he said.
Next week, the president will meet with representatives of agribusiness, including meat and rice producers, to discuss measures to make food prices more affordable for the population. "Affordable food on the worker's table is something we are pursuing," he declared.
Lula also ruled out any possibility of a price freeze and stressed that the solution lies in expanding Brazilian production.
“We opened 303 new markets for Brazilian products, and almost all of them are food products. This means that Brazil has truly become the breadbasket of the world. It means that people are buying a lot from Brazil. It means that we need to produce more, improve quality, so that we can lower the price. I can't freeze [the food],” he emphasized.
