247 - More than 8 million people may have improperly received the R$ 600 emergency aid, according to a report from the Federal Audit Court (TCU).

The emergency aid is intended for informal workers, self-employed individuals, micro-entrepreneurs, and unemployed people who lost income during the coronavirus pandemic. On the other hand, 2,3 million citizens who are registered in the Unified Registry of social programs may have been excluded even though they are entitled to the benefit, reports O Estado de S.Paulo.

The follow-up report on emergency aid is due to be reviewed this Wednesday (3) by the Court of Auditors’ plenary, with a series of recommendations to the federal government to improve the management of the program and avoid irregular payment of benefits.

According to reporterBrazilians living abroad are receiving emergency aid. Young members of the Armed Forces, dependents of families benefiting from social programs, were also included.

According to the auditors' calculations, 21,2 million citizens should have received assistance through the Caixa Econômica Federal app or website. However, the number of grants was much higher, at 29,3 million. On the other hand, the TCU (Federal Court of Accounts) projected 13,1 million people registered in the CadÚnico (Single Registry for Social Programs) outside of the Bolsa Família program as beneficiaries, but the actual number was 10,8 million.
