TRF4 denies habeas corpus request for João Vaccari
The defense of the former PT treasurer alleged illegal constraint in an attempt to annul the arrest, which occurred last Wednesday (15), in São Paulo; Vaccari will remain imprisoned in Curitiba, where he shares a cell with another person, by a monocratic decision of the judge João Pedro Gebran Neto; Judge Sérgio Moro, of Operation Lava-Jato, maintains that the PT member should remain in preventive detention because of his alleged power of "influence" and the possibility of hindering the investigations; Vaccari is accused of passive corruption and money laundering.
247 - Judge João Pedro Gebran Neto, of the Federal Regional Court (TRF) of the 4th Region, rejected on Monday (20) the defense's argument of illegal constraint and kept former PT treasurer João Vaccari Neto in prison.
Federal judge Sérgio Moro, who is leading the Lava Jato Operation investigations, argues that Vaccari should remain in pretrial detention because of his alleged power of "influence" and the possibility of him obstructing the investigations.
The former treasurer of the Workers' Party (PT) was arrested last Wednesday by the Federal Police in São Paulo and taken to Curitiba, where he remains sharing a cell with another person.
The arrest occurred during the twelfth phase of Operation Lava Jato. Vaccari was detained at his home. He is accused of passive corruption and money laundering.
