247 - The belligerent tone adopted by President Jair Bolsonaro regarding the possibility of supporting a military intervention in Venezuela, as desired by US President Donald Trump, has raised alarm bells within the Armed Forces. According to columnist Igor Gielow of Folha de São Paulo, the fear is that Bolsonaro has committed to helping the US overthrow the government of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, which "would be a breaking point in the top brass's support for the government."
"In their WhatsApp groups, military personnel spent the afternoon of this Tuesday (19) exchanging impressions about Bolsonaro's remarks on Venezuela during his official visit at the invitation of his counterpart Donald Trump. Even the idea that Brazil could offer logistical support to the undertaking was considered "an unacceptable hypothesis today by most of the Brazilian defense leadership."
"The case is expected to have new chapters this Wednesday (20), when the delegation led by Bolsonaro returns to Brasília," the journalist points out.
