247 - The German embassy in Brasilia released a statement on Wednesday, the 23rd, asking Brazil, whose president, Jair Bolsonaro, recently traveled to Russia and renewed ties with Vladimir Putin, to join the bloc led by the United States regarding Ukraine.

“We cannot stand idly by. What matters is our cohesion as democratic countries. We cannot give in to individual aggressors. We must confront them united. It is important to make it clear that unilateral border changes by force are inadmissible, as they constitute a flagrant violation of the Charter and fundamental principles of the UN. This is the message that, together, we must now convey to Russia,” the statement emphasizes.

“Over the years, we have strived to resolve this conflict politically – all of that is now being unilaterally destroyed by Russia. This is not merely a violation of basic principles of international law. Fundamental interests of the international community, and therefore of Germany and Brazil, are directly at stake,” the statement said.

“It is evident: if such aggressive acts, contrary to international law, become commonplace and if there are no strong and clear reactions, the international order will be undermined. Therefore, it is important that we all call the violation of international law by its name and support efforts towards a peaceful solution,” the statement says.

"NATO is a defensive alliance. It guarantees the collective protection of the organization's territory. NATO regrets that Russia does not accept the proposal for dialogue for a political resolution of this conflict within the framework of the NATO-Russia Council. Our goal is to avoid war," the text concludes.
