TCU (Brazilian Federal Court of Accounts) dismisses Gayer's request to investigate Janja for expenses on international trips.
In addition to accompanying Lula on his trips abroad, the first lady has also represented the country in official engagements.
247 - The Brazilian Federal Court of Accounts (TCU) unanimously decided to dismiss a request from Congressman Gustavo Gayer (PL-GO) to investigate the First Lady, Rosângela da Silva, known as Janja, regarding her expenses on international trips. This information comes from... Folha de S. Paul.
The petition requested an audit of the costs related to the First Lady's trips and questioned the fact that she spent 103 days outside of Brazil between 2023 and 2024, sixteen more than President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
In addition to accompanying Lula on his trips abroad, Janja has also represented the country in official engagements.
Minister Bruno Dantas, the case's rapporteur, understood that the legality of the trips had already been analyzed previously. Furthermore, the Court of Accounts highlighted that Gayer does not have "the legitimacy to request audits by the TCU (Federal Court of Accounts)." This prerogative is exclusive to the presidents of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, as well as parliamentary committees.
The TCU's decision follows the same line as the Attorney General of the Republic, Paulo Gonet, who, last week, dismissed the requests made by the opposition to investigate the expenses of the First Lady.
