247 - The governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicanos), has a meeting scheduled for this Thursday (29) with Jair Bolsonaro (PL), imprisoned in the 19th Battalion of the Military Police of the Federal District, known as 'Papudinha'. The visit takes place amidst the right-wing articulations for the presidential elections and should serve to consolidate Tarcísio's support for Senator Flávio Bolsonaro's (PL) pre-candidacy for the Planalto Palace, according to Metropolis.

The governor's visit was authorized by Minister Alexandre de Moraes of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), who set the visit between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM. This will be the first in-person meeting between Tarcísio and Bolsonaro since September of last year. A previous attempt at a visit, scheduled for last week, was canceled due to family reasons for the governor of São Paulo.

Behind the scenes in politics, Tarcísio had been cited as one of the leading figures on the right with electoral potential to challenge President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) at the polls. Even so, the governor has publicly reiterated that he will not run for president and that his political project is focused on reelection as governor of São Paulo, opening space for Senator Flávio Bolsonaro as the group's priority candidate.

Last Tuesday (27), Tarcísio stated that the internal scenario of the right points to the consolidation of the candidacy of the former president's eldest son. “I don't believe it will change, I think [Flávio's candidacy] is consolidating rapidly. He is filling this space, he has the Bolsonaro name, which is very strong, so I believe that this issue is decided,” declared the governor.

The expectation among allies is that Thursday's conversation will publicly reinforce this political alignment. In recent weeks, Tarcísio has sought to dispel speculation about a possible independent candidacy and has emphasized his loyalty to Bolsonaro, in addition to reiterating his commitment to remaining in charge of the Palácio dos Bandeirantes (São Paulo state government headquarters).

In recent statements, the governor also addressed Jair Bolsonaro's personal situation and stated that he is politically active in supporting him. "I'm going to show him that we here are working to change this situation, so that he can return home, to his family, which is our goal, and we will not rest," he said.
