Tarcísio defends management style inspired by Milei and downplays the impact of parliamentary amendments on the budget.

The governor said that the Executive branch "spends a lot of energy" discussing parliamentary amendments, which consume a large part of the budget.

247 - The governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicanos), defended a ministerial reform in Brazil and a review of how the federal budget is structured. The statements were made during the Esfera Brasil event, held this Monday (25), in São Paulo, and were recorded by the portal Metropolis.

When asked about what measures the next president of the Republic should take, Tarcísio stated that the Argentine experience under Javier Milei could serve as inspiration. “Argentina currently operates with nine ministries; imagine the amount of cuts they managed to make, and that was important for boosting public administration. It's possible to cut without losing quality,” said the governor during a panel discussion led by the president of the Progressistas party, Ciro Nogueira.

Government “spends too much energy” discussing amendments, says Tarcísio.

According to Tarcísio, since 2016 the National Congress has led major transformations, such as administrative reform, and helped create a more favorable economic environment for the private sector. However, he believes the federal government is wasting efforts by focusing the discussion on parliamentary amendments instead of advancing structural measures.

“A budget reform would reduce, end, and extinguish a series of discussions we have today, such as, for example, discussions about amendments. A lot of energy is spent discussing 40, 50 billion in a universe of 3,5 trillion. And we have to think about what the big accounts are, what needs to be done, where we can make changes,” he declared.

Legal context regarding the amendments.

Tarcísio's statements came a day after Supreme Federal Court (STF) Justice Flávio Dino ordered the Comptroller General of the Union (CGU) to conduct an audit of the transfer of funds from parliamentary amendments to the Moriá Association between 2022 and 2024.

The decision was made within the scope of the Argument of Non-Compliance with Fundamental Precept (ADPF) 854, which deals with the allocation of amendments and, according to the minister, deserves special attention regarding contracts signed with the Ministry of Health.
