"The Supreme Court needs to put on the sandals of humility," says Gilmar.

Commenting on the Court's decision to remove Senator Aécio Neves from office, the minister said: "We will find a solution, as we have in other times of crisis. I think that just as caution is recommended to the Legislative branch, we too must know that, as the ultimate interpreters of the constitutional text, we must also proceed with reasonableness, sobriety, and put on the sandals of humility."

247 - Supreme Court Justice Gilmar Mendes stated this Thursday, the 28th, that the Court needs to put on the sandals of humility when commenting on the removal of Senator Aécio Neves (PSDB-MG) from office and his nightly confinement, decided by the First Panel.

"We will find a solution, as we have in other times of crisis. I think that just as caution is recommended to the Legislature, we too must know that, as the ultimate interpreters of the constitutional text, we must also proceed with reasonableness, sobriety, and humility," said Gilmar, according to... Valor report.

He believes the episode can provide lessons and stated that "there are limits to all power."

"I believe that this whole event brings a certain lesson: that there are limits to all powers. We cannot overstep the boundaries of those powers. From time to time, judges and legislators must look at the constitutional text, placing it above their own will," he declared.
