Supreme Court gives Federal Police 60 days to investigate the relationship between Odebrecht and Collor.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Luiz Fux granted the Federal Police an additional 60 days to conclude its investigations into the alleged transfer of R$ 800 from Odebrecht Ambiental to Senator Fernando Collor (PTC-AL) in 2010. Executives from the sanitation company denounced the senator and stated that they paid the sums in exchange for support for the privatization of Alagoas' sewage system. "Subsequently, considering that the Attorney General of the Republic has expressed his support for the request to extend the deadline for concluding the investigations, the case files are to be forwarded to the Federal Police for a period of 60 days," Fux stated in his decision.

Executive Fernando Reis had said that "the investment was called the Agreste Water Supply System, which aimed to supply water to the municipalities of Arapiraca, Coité do Nóia, Igaci, and Craíbas dos Nunes, as well as the Vale Verde Mining Company. We even participated in a public Expression of Interest (EOI) process and presented a feasibility study in September 2009."

"During two or three visits to Maceió, I realized that there was a huge opportunity for private investment in the sanitation sector in the state, which has the worst coverage rates in Brazil, even going so far as to study the privatization of the state-owned company Casal," he said.

The senator commented on the Odebrecht plea bargain on April 12, when its contents were revealed. "I vehemently deny having received any undue, unreported advantage from Odebrecht in the 2010 election campaign."
