Brazil's Supreme Court convicts Bolsonaro for leading the criminal organization that attempted a coup d'état.

The final vote was cast by Minister Cristiano Zanin. The final score was 4 votes to 1.

247 - With the vote of Minister Cristiano Zanin, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), in the First Panel of the court, delivered this Thursday (11), the eight defendants of the central core of the coup plot, including former president Jair Bolsonaro, were convicted. The final score was 4 to 1, with the dissenting vote of Minister Luiz Fux. 

Zanin was the last minister on the panel to cast his vote, after the majority in favor of Bolsonaro's conviction was established by Minister Cármen Lúcia. 

"I fully agree with Moraes in finding the complaint filed by the Attorney General's Office to be valid," said Zanin.

Below are the sentences handed down by the First Panel, as announced by Justice Alexandre de Moraes: 

  • Alexandre Ramagem - convicted by majority vote for criminal organization, attempted abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law, and coup d'état.
  • Almir Garnier, Anderson Torres, Augusto Heleno, and Paulo Sérgio Nogueira were convicted by majority vote for the crimes mentioned above, as well as for armed criminal organization, attempted abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law, and coup d'état, but also for aggravated damage through violence and deterioration of listed heritage.
  • Mauro Cid and Walter Braga Netto - unanimously convicted of the violent abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law, and by majority vote for the crimes mentioned above.
  • Jair Bolsonaro - convicted by majority vote for leading an armed criminal organization, attempting to abolish the Democratic Rule of Law and staging a coup d'état, as well as causing aggravated damage through violence and serious threats against federal property, considerable harm to the victim, and deterioration of listed heritage sites.
