247 - The Solidarity and PRD parties are expected to officially form a party federation this Wednesday (25), with an announcement scheduled for an event in the Chamber of Deputies. The move is part of a strategy to confront the tightening of public financing rules from 2026 onwards. The information is from g1.

The federation will have ten federal deputies, 138 mayors elected in 2024, and one governor — Clécio Luís, from Amapá. The new structure will be led by Ovasco Resende, from the PRD party, while the vice-presidency will be held by federal deputy Paulinho da Força, national leader of the Solidariedade party.

The federation's documentation will be formalized this week at a notary's office and subsequently sent to the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), which is responsible for approving the union. Once official, the two parties will operate as a single entity for the next four years, with joint candidacies and political decisions.

The central motivation behind the agreement is political and financial. Starting in 2026, a new model will come into effect that tightens the criteria for access to party funds and airtime on radio and television. Even after mergers and acquisitions — the PRD was formed from the union of PTB and Patriota, while Solidariedade absorbed Pros — the leaders believe that these measures are not enough to ensure the survival of the parties.

For Paulinho da Força, the federation could be the way to gain political strength and attract new parties to the bloc. "We are working to build a centrist candidacy. We will work against extremes, against right-wing candidates and also against left-wing candidates," he stated.

According to Felipe Espírito Santo, vice-president of Solidariedade, the focus at the moment is to consolidate the alliance between the two parties: "Initially, the parties will focus on the Solidariedade and PRD federation," he stated.

The federation will also have an impact on the 2026 presidential election. In the previous election, Solidariedade and Pros supported Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), while PTB and Patriota opted for different paths — the former launched its own candidacy, and the latter remained neutral.

Now, leaders of both parties are putting together a centrist candidacy, rejecting both a possible reelection of Lula and a new candidacy of Jair Bolsonaro (PL). The internal assessment is that the Planalto Palace has distanced itself from the allies who supported it in 2022, which motivated the search for alternatives.

In April of this year, Paulinho da Força participated in the launch of Governor Ronaldo Caiado's (União Brasil) presidential pre-candidacy, signaling the group's desire for a more structured third option.

The event announcing the federation will be attended by the presidents of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP), and the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), both of whom have been invited to the ceremony.
