247 - Amid preparations for COP30, the Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, stated this Friday (07) that the government is working in an “accelerated” manner to align with Congress Bill 2.780/2024, which establishes the National Policy for Critical and Strategic Minerals (PNMCE). The text aims to unlock investments and guarantee predictability to the sector, considered vital for the energy transition and for the country's new industrial policy.

The information was published by Broadcast (Estadão). During the Climate Summit, an event preceding the UN Conference on Climate Change (COP30), Silveira praised the rapporteur of the proposal, Congressman Arnaldo Jardim (Cidadania-SP), and highlighted the pace of negotiations. “The pacification [of the text] is progressing at my accelerated pace. Congressman Arnaldo Jardim is doing a great job,” declared the minister.

Silveira reiterated that, if there is no consensus among parliamentarians, the government is considering presenting its own version of the bill. According to him, the priority is to guarantee a legal framework that unites environmental sustainability, technological development, and legal security for the mining sector.

The minister also announced the creation of the Council for Critical and Strategic Minerals (CMCE), which will define guidelines for the production chain, monitor the implementation of the policy, and coordinate strategic partnerships with the private sector and foreign governments.
