'Bolsonaro's silence hinders pacification and encourages road blockades,' say highway patrol associations.
"The result of the 2022 elections expresses the will of the majority of the population and must be respected," state two representative entities of PRF agents.
247 - Representative associations of federal highway police officers criticized on Tuesday (1) the "silence" of Jair Bolsonaro (PL), who has so far not recognized his defeat to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) in the second round of the presidential election. The assessment is that the delay in recognizing the election results encourages the blockades carried out by Bolsonaro supporters on national highways, in addition to hindering the pacification of the country.
"The result of the 2022 elections expresses the will of the majority of the population and must be respected. The stance of the current President of the Republic, Jair Bolsonaro, in remaining silent and not recognizing the results of the polls ends up hindering the pacification of the country, encouraging a portion of his followers to adopt actions of blocking Brazilian roads," says an excerpt from the joint statement of the National Federation of Federal Highway Police Officers (FenaPRF) and the Unions of Federal Highway Police Officers throughout Brazil, according to the G1.
In the text, the organizations also demand a "firm stance" from Jair Bolsonaro. "The PRF union system continues to demand a firm stance from the DPRF leadership to provide the necessary means for the corporation to fulfill its constitutional functions, thus guaranteeing the population's right to come and go and safeguarding the safety and integrity of the police officers," the organizations say in the statement.
Thirty-seven hours after the proclamation of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's election, Jair Bolsonaro remains silent.
