Sidney Rezende: Bolsonaro changed his tune and now poses as a religious and pure man.
Videos posted in the last two weeks have "changed tone," writes the journalist, shifting from the "aggressiveness" of the hate cabinet to images of a sensitive Bolsonaro, who suffers and gets emotional.
By Sidney Rezende, from SRzd - The videos supporting President Jair Bolsonaro, posted in the last two weeks, have changed tone. The aggressiveness attributed to his son Carlos Bolsonaro, the so-called "Hate Cabinet," remains active on Twitter, but, in parallel, another political persuasion strategy has emerged. This strategy was used in the past by the marketing team of former President Lula, who, at the time, was seen by part of society as a subversive politician. Therefore, the idea was to present him as more human, possessing emotions like anyone else, with more tenderness, and generating more hope. Instead of reinforcing the image of the bearded, overalls-clad metalworker who wanted to confront savage capitalism head-on, it worked!
This time, Bolsonaro is being portrayed as a religious figure, a messiah who believes in God above all else (even emphasizing his surname), someone pure, of the people, sensitive, sentimental, a person who suffers, cries, gets emotional, and is persecuted by all those who do not have Jesus in their hearts.
All of this is done with the president's own authorization and, according to sources, under the supervision of the "Hate Cabinet." Watch this video posted by the president himself. Note: the voice in the background song is that of Bishop Marcelo Crivella, from the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God and mayor of Rio, who received the support (and affiliation with the Republicans) of the Bolsonaro family for the upcoming municipal elections.
Also watch the video of the motorcade with supporters in Curitiba, who got out of their cars, knelt on the asphalt praying for the president's well-being. These are demonstrations that mix faith, emotion, and politics in favor of a powerful group.
This appeal usually works on people who don't realize they are being drawn into political marketing with an electoral objective. Bolsonaro is building his base of resistance, in case he needs to counter any rational movement that questions the excesses of his government and criticizes his irresponsibility in the face of the new coronavirus pandemic.
In the coming days, other videos will be posted along the same lines: to generate tears and emotional connection between voters and the captain's power project, which is losing ground in its relationship with the other branches of government.
